Cycling Claremont: Riding out the Flood

They made riders tough back then.

Seems funny now, looking around at the spread of urbanity, but not all that long ago the area in, and around, little ol' Claremont could pose a serious problem to people getting around by bike during periods of heavy rainfall. These days civil engineers and their urban drainage systems take care of all but the worst flooding. I recently found this photo on the interwebs where it is identified as Foothill Blvd in Claremont, just east of Mills (1938).
