Two Wheel Tuesday: Volunteers of America

"Look what's happening out in the streets
Got a revolution, got to revolution
Hey, I'm dancing down the streets
Got a revolution, got to revolution
Oh, ain't it amazing all the people I meet?
Got a revolution, got to revolution..."

Lately I have been re-appreciating the Airplane - Jefferson Airplane - not that the appreciation was ever lacking, it is just that I have been digging their song repertoire a lot lately. When Volunteers came on the ol' ipod this morning I knew it was going to be the theme for this nights' 2WT, I just had to figure out how to spin it.

The initial thought - a call for volunteers - ie. more mountain bikers, was just lame. No good. Thankfully, my fellow riders came through yet again.

You should have seen the smile spread across his face, heard the heart-felt thank you's spilling from his mouth when, not one, but two riders stepped up and volunteered, giving Bloody l'Elbow a respite for the evening. It was an unexpected show of camaraderie, the old "one for all, and all for one" exhibition of support. More than anything, it was cliff diving, mountain bike style, though from the retelling style had absolutely nothing to do with either incident of slip and slide, and rollie-pollie down the slope. Grace and artistry in motion? Well, probably not, tumbling riders like runaway boulders are rarely graceful. A splash of dust and poison oak leaves kicked high into the air settled things. A 3.5 out of a possible 10, all for effort. Ah well, a pint of the La Verne Brewing Company's finest heals all wounds, and soothes all crushed egos.

"Oh, ain't it amazing all the people I meet?
Got a revolution, oh-oh
We are volunteers of America..."

It is like someone took that big orange moon between their thumb and finger, and squished it good.
