Meeting the Ice Cream Man

You may have read recently about how the numbers of people using public transportation are on a downward trend. You also may have read that among the reasons cited, "uncomfortable contact" (i.e. proximity) to other p.t. users ranks right up there near the top of the list. This is part and parcel, the same mentality, that brought us gated communities, "separate but equal", Balkanization and, ultimately if you continue the progression to its most diabolic end, gas chambers and ethnic, religious, racial cleansing.

It would seem as though the problem with public transportation is the public.

Well, as is often the case, there are to sides to the question / problem. Returning home, by rail, from the Sunday Funday ride this past weekend, the mrs. and I, found ourselves sharing standing room, and bike space, with the ice cream man or, more specifically, the Peddler's Creamery man. If you didn't know (and I must confess my ignorance) Peddler's Creamery is a downtown Los Angeles business serving ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet, from a colorful storefront space on Main Street near Fifth. Within, Peddler's Creamery churns their tasty treats by pedaling stationary bikes.

Check them out next time you're in the area, and look for them when CicLAvia comes to the foothill communities. I was told they will have a both at the Claremont hub on April 21. The above photo is via the Peddler's Creamery website.
